Latest version.
  • Any member, male or female, may designate any time his spouse or child, or children, under the age of 18 years, as beneficiary of his pension benefits, the amount of such benefits being hereinbefore specified, provided that the additional contributions for beneficiaries required by this division are made for the period of time that a member has a beneficiary. When a member shall fail to designate a beneficiary for any period of time that he was able to do so, he shall in the event that he shall later designate a beneficiary, pay such sum as he would have paid had he designated a beneficiary originally, together with six percent interest. Such sum shall be payable in such installments bearing such interest as may be determined by the board of trustees. Designation of a beneficiary shall be compulsory as to each member of the fund having a spouse or child, or children, under the age of 18 years.
