§ 146-31. Fulton County Police Force established to full operation.

  • Police protection for unincorporated Fulton County shall be provided by an independent Fulton County Police Force established as follows:

    (1)

    The Fulton County Police Force shall be under the supervision, direction, and command of the county police chief who shall be appointed by the Board of Commissioners of Fulton County and who shall report to the county manager. The term of office of the county police chief shall be fixed by the board of commissioners.

    (2)

    The salary of the county police chief shall be not less than $25,000.00 per year.

    (3)

    The county manager, together with the county police chief when appointed, shall develop, subject to the approval of the board of commissioners, rules, regulations, and procedures for the establishment, direction, and operation of the county police force. Said procedure shall provide for recruitment, training, and equipping of adequate forces to give full police protection to the county, and shall further include procedures providing for protection of pension and retirement rights, orderly advancement and promotion policy, and other employee benefits commensurate with existing county policies, and such other procedures as are necessary to implement the establishment of the Fulton County Police Force with full operating capacity.
