§ 18-182. Qualifications of applicant.

  • Any applicant hereunder, prior to making application for a license, must have the following qualifications:

    (1)

    The applicant must be of good moral character; must not have been convicted or have pled guilty or entered a plea of nolo contendere to any sexual offense asset out in Title 16, Chapter 6 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, or to any offense involving the lottery, illegal possession or sale of narcotics or alcoholic beverages or possession or receiving of stolen property, for a period of five years immediately prior to the filing of the application. If after having been granted a license, the applicant is found not to be of good moral character, or pleads guilty or enters a plea of nolo contendere to any of the above offenses, said license shall be subject to suspension and/or revocation.

    (2)

    The applicant must furnish a photostatic copy of a diploma indicating graduation from a massage school as an exhibit to the application. The school shall be approved by the American Massage Therapy Association or some other professional massage organization of equivalent professional membership standards. The diploma should be representative of the fact that applicant attended a course of study of not less than six months, or 500 hours, wherein the course of study consisted of a curriculum of physical culture, anatomy, physiology, massage, hydrotherapy, electrotherapy, hygiene, health service management, and other such related subjects. As an alternative, the applicant may produce evidence of membership in the American Massage Therapy Association, or other professional massage therapy organization of equivalent professional membership standards.

    (3)

    Effective February 1, 2001, all applicants must provide a certified statement from the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCTMB) evidencing passage by the applicant of the exam administered by the NCTMB.
